The Bob Long Memorial Mutt Run

Do you enjoy running? Do you love spending time with your dog? Why not combine the two?

Introducing the Bob Long Memorial Mutt Run. It’s the only canicross event in LA County, and it takes place along the scenic Alamitos Beach.

Join other like-minded humans and canines, and have the time of your life together.

Ukrainian Art for Peace Project

Childhood should be filled with happiness, curiosity, and love. Children growing up in conflict face tremendous challenges. Let us provide an opportunity to share their perspectives and allow them to heal through art.

Our Peace Ambassadors will ask Ukrainian children around the world who are experiencing trauma resulting from the Russian invasion in 2022 to submit original art. The theme of the artwork will be “What Peace Means to Me.”

Winners will be selected by the board of directors and the winners will be announced on February 24, 2023 (one year anniversary of the Russian invasion).

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is all about Rotarians mentoring youths in leadership development. It is an intensive training program for more than 200 high school students in their sophomore or junior year, who are chosen for their proven or potential leadership qualities. Students participate in an all-expense paid event over several days in late April each year.

The camp is run by RYLA Alumni and student attendance is sponsored by Rotary Clubs from Southern California. RYLA provides a memorable opportunity to learn, grow, have fun, make new friends, and gain new perspectives.

Frequently, the experience is even more transformative for the volunteering Rotarians than for the campers.

Guatemala School and Clean Water Projects

In collaboration with Local Hope, a non-profit organization that implements integrated solutions to remove obstacles to education for the indigenous people of Guatemala.

In 2023, president Les and his family went to Guatemala on a service trip to offer medical services, educate women on the use of technology, and deliver food and water filters to neighboring towns.

Signal Hill Rotary is proud to have teamed with Local Hope and other Rotary Clubs in Southern California that implemented a Rotary International Global Grant that brought clean drinking water, sanitation (toilets) and hand washing stations to nearly 15,000 people in this poverty belt in the highlands of Guatemala.

Collaboration with the Assistance League

Instead of duplicating our efforts, the Rotary Club of Signal Hill now collaborates with the Assistance League of Long Beach to provide backpacks, school supplies, and uniforms for students in Long Beach Unified School District.

President-elect nominee Jose Quintanilla and President Les Young are pictured packing backpacks at the Assistance League headquarter.
