Remembering Aiden
Frank Dunnick and Les Young brought their families to Granada Beach on Saturday to honor the memory of Aiden Gossage. Aiden was 16 years old, a senior at Millikan High School. He was killed by a drunk driver on September 4, 2021.
Deaths resulting from drunk driving occurs every 48 minutes in this country. They are 100% preventable.
Aiden’s mother, Lily, gave a moving tribute to her son, who “just wanted to be a good man”. “When a mother loses a son, every morning she wakes up, she dies all over again,” expressed Lily.
Signal Hill Rotary raised money to support MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), along with other sponsors.

Ultimate Branding
Les Young, being the public image chair and now the president-elect for the club in 2022-23, decided to have some skin in the game. Demonstrating his commitment and loyalty to the Rotary mission, he had the Rotary wheel logo tattooed on his arm.
The process took only about 90 minutes, but his dedication to Rotary will last a lifetime.
Rotary Greeting
During our morning club meeting today, I recorded everyone greeting Dave. Right after the meeting, I visited Dave Swidrak and his daughter Heidi to show everyone’s love for him. Dave and Heidi, we’re thinking of you, even if you can’t be at the meeting with us.

Mayor’s Cleanup
Volunteers converged to the Signal Hill city hall and picked up trash around the city right before the Halloween carnival.
Gently Down the Stream
Steve and his wife from the Long Beach Rotary Club took us vicariously down the stream around the Great Loop by sharing their nautical adventure this morning. The presentation was so captivating that no one objected when it extended the meeting time by half an hour. Thank you.

Weeding Hearts
Weeding hearts are more environmentally friendly than bleeding hearts.
Tom possesses one of the most generous hearts I know. That’s why his Rotary friends converged at his yard for some weeding and trimming while he recovers from a recent surgery. Tom and his dog, Desi, entertained us while we beautified his garden. Scott even made an arthropod friend by the time we finished.

Pandemic Relief
Volunteers from Signal Hill Rotary continue to support the city in delivering groceries to families during the pandemic.
Jose’s Craft Talk
We learned more about Joe’s personal and professional life this morning during his craft talk. It’s always wonderful to make a new friend and get to know him. We heard that his dog, Hunter, literally walked into his life. We celebrated his wife’s recovery from cancer. We are so fortunate to have a great guy like Jose among us.
