Alvarado Elementary Uniform Fitting
Jose and Rey worked with the Assistance League of Long Beach to measure and fit uniforms for all the students at Alvarado Elementary School in Long Beach. Assistance League provides over 14,000 uniforms for students at Long Beach Unified School District. The Signal Hill Rotary Club has been collaborating with them to purchase school supplies and assemble backpacks for many local schools.
Long Beach Gives Starts 9/14
The Mutt Run is now a part of the Long Beach Gives fundraising campaign, which starts on September 14th.
Help us find homes for sheltered pets by kick starting our fundraiser early.
Back 2 School
Signal Hill Rotary purchased 1,500 composition books to distribute to students in Long Beach Unified School District just before the first day of school at the 12th annual Back 2 School Event at Scherer Park. The Rotary Club joined other community organizations in supporting families and students.
It was a wonderful opportunities to connect with our neighbors and with each other.
Club Social
We enjoyed an evening of fun, fellowship, craft beer, and artisan pizza at Ten Mile Brewing Company. We meet here every fourth Thursday of the month in lieu of a morning meeting.
Friends of Long Beach Animals
Friends of Long Beach Animals hosted a fundraiser to help animals in the Long Beach shelter. Les attended the event and made connections to the various vendors to promote the Mutt Run in February 2024.
Presidents Social
Jose, Jesse, and Les attended the first presidents’ social this Rotary year with Governor Roy. We learned about district resources for marketing, global grants, and district-wide projects for this year.
Interact Beach Cleanup
Interactors (members of the youth division of the Rotary Club) from district 5320 organized a beach cleanup at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point. In addition to beautifying the beach for the community, Rotarians and Interactors also learned about nutrient pollution in our ocean and the upcoming Interact club rush at the local high schools.
Our newest member, Bethany, invited her husband Steve to participate. President Les brought his son along to join the effort and fun.
Welcome Bethany
We officially welcomed Bethany to our club this morning. She is a public defender in Orange County, and she has been providing a vital service to those who are most vulnerable in our community for ten years. She also has a big heart, as she is the mother of many dogs she adopted from the animal shelter.
National Night Out
The Signal Hill Police Foundation organized the National Night Out with a community outreach event that featured our Rotary Club, the Signal Hill Chamber of Commerce, Chick-fil-A, Costco, and the Signal Hill Diversity Coalition.
We promoted the Mutt Run to all pet lovers while enjoyed each others’ company.
Governor Roy Visits Signal Hill
Governor Roy Jefferson shared his vision and goals for this Rotary year as the district leader. He encouraged our club to focus on service projects, community liaisons, contribution to the Rotary Foundation, and membership growth.
It’s another exciting and inspiring new year for our club and Rotary.
